Psalm 119:105 KJV

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Today we want to talk about the word of God and things it can do for us. The Bible is the word of God, the Bible is an instruction book that teaches us how to please God. Our text calls the word of God lamp to our feet and light to our path. Meaning, with the word of God we won't work in darkness, with the word of God we won't make avoidable mistakes that can leave in repairable and everlasting regrets. Another verse of that Psalm 119 says, Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against You. Meaning, the word of God in our hearts keeps us away from sin. Even when we are living in an environment where sin is the normal things to do, with the word of God in our hearts, it gives us the fear of God not to join them. 

Another good thing the word of God does is it gives us good success. In the world today, there are different types of success, or maybe to say, there are success that is gotten without the fear of God, the anyways types of success, people look at them admiring them as successful people but success is not good success if it was gotten outside good virtues or gotten without humanity. The word of God on our hearts keeps us on the right path till our good success comes. A type of success that has the fear of God as it's foundation. 

The word of God also keeps us away from evil. There is evil every where and we may not know who is next to us if they are enemies or friends, but the word of God gives us wisdom to understand what to look out for when making friends and how to recognise those coming to us for evil, and it also keeps us away from attending wrong occasions or sitting in wrong associations that are likely to lead to evil later. 

A verse in Psalm 119 also says, I know more than my teachers, because Thy testimonies are my meditation, the next verse says, I understand more than the ancients because I keep Thy precepts. Meaning the word of God makes us wise. You see elderly men without the word of God in their hearts sleeping around with different women, thinking it is wise but it's not wise, it's foolishness. When Joseph was brought out of prison and the king asked, can we find a man with more wisdom than you, this is same Joseph who had rejected offers of sin to make himself a free man in Egypt. To someone without the word of God, he would have thought it was a good way, but to God, the route of the fear of God had the best way to make him free man in Egypt. He got both freedom and greatness. May God help us to keep the word of God in our hearts too. Amen.

1. O God I thank You for teaching me about the blessings in Your word today. 
2. God please give me grace to keep Your words in my heart always so I can get the blessings in keeping Your words. Amen.
